Helps pregnant women, new mother and children with supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women.

Capital Area Food Bank
Helping our neighbors thrive by creating more equitable access to food and opportunity through community partnerships. CAFB distributes food to a network of over 450 food assistance organizations, we supply over 45 million meals a year to families in the Washington metro area.

DC Department of Human Services
DHS’s purpose is to empower every District resident to reach their full potential by providing meaningful connections to work opportunities, economic assistance, and supportive services.

DHS administers the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). SNAP provides monthly benefits to low-income individuals and families on an EBT card to purchase food at authorized retailers, farmer’s markets, and participating online retailers.

Food & Friends
Food & Friends is the only community-based organization in the D.C. region providing home-delivered medically tailored meals and medical nutrition therapy to our neighbors living with cancer, HIV/AIDS, and other serious illnesses. Individuals receiving services must be referred by a medical provider or insurer.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Food Research & Action Center (FRAC) offer an updated “Screen & Intervene: A Toolkit for Pediatricians to Address Food Insecurity,” designed to help pediatricians identify and address childhood food insecurity.
